KENYATTA PRESIDENT – KENYA’S SUPREME COURT DECISION

Justice Willy Mutunga delivered verdict just after 17.00hrs

UNANIMOUS DECISION

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has announced a “unanimous decision” by Kenya’s Supreme Court that Uhuru Kenyatta was duly elected as President-elect of the country following the election held on March 4.

The Supreme Court has rejected all petitions challenging the election of Uhura Kenyatta as President of Kenya and William Ruto as his Deputy President.

Uhuru Kenyatta to be sworn in on 9th April

The Supreme Court ruled that the election had been held in compliance with the laws of the Republic of Kenya and was “free and fair”.

REJECTED VOTES

The court also ruled that rejected votes should not have been included in the calculation for deciding the percentage of votes achieved by each candidate.

The Supreme Court has stated that a detailed ruling providing the reasons for their decisions will be made public within 14 days.

Each party was ordered to bear their own costs in the case.

Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto will be sworn in as President and Deputy-President of Kenya on 9 April, 2013
