Kenya’s leading telecom firm, Safaricom, has been named among the worlds most innovative companies in 2013 in a survey by Fast Company, arguably the world’s most acclaimed business magazine, thanks to the mobile provider’s Daktari 1525 service.
DAKTARI 1525
The Daktari 1525 service was launched in 2012 with the aim of providing Kenyans with quick and easy access to medical information and advice. The service is available 24 hours a day and enables callers to consult a doctor for medical advice at a small fee thus bridging the wide ratio between doctors and patients in the country.
Fast Company highlights the state of innovation in our economy and features the businesses whose innovations are having the greatest impacts across their industries and our culture as a whole, in the guide which is released annually.
NICE FOR NIKE
Safaricom is listed #9, and credited for bridging a health care gap with telecom, a position that makes the giant firm triumph over global brands like Apple, Google, Facebook, Coca-Cola and Samsung.
Nike tops the list of the most innovative company of 2013 courtesy of the “firm’s pair of revolutionary new products and a culture of true believers,” as stated by the magazine as the sport’s company keeps coming up with great innovative products like FuelBand bracelet, a $150 electronic bracelet that measures your movements throughout the day, and the Flyknit Racer shoes, feather light shoes that feel more like a sock atop a sole.
