The department of communication in the office of Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has released a statement refuting claims that the governor has banned the consumption or sell of alcohol at sporting events and specifically today’s Kabeberi rugby 7s.

“The Nairobi country government has specifically directed that any alcohol consumption will be undertaken in the specific and controlled areas as provided for in the alcohol licencing act and provision and there shall be no be sell of alcohol to minors, family areas and after six pm”, reads part of the statement.

ALCOHOL WILL BE ON SALE AT KABEBERI RUGBY 7S TOURNAMENT

On Thursday Kidero held a press briefing at his office where he announced that he had outlawed the consumption and sale of alcohol during the Kabeberi 7s rugby event this weekend and in other future sporting events as well. This move was largely seen as an attemtp to avoid a repeat of what happened in the popular Masaku Sevens where rampant alcohol ingestion has been considered to have marred the event.

“No one will be allowed in the stadium with alcohol, no one will be allowed to drink in their cars and alcoblow devices will be stationed around the pitch to check those drinking,” Kidero said, adding that those who break the rules will be prosecuted.
