KCPE Results 2014 Released

Education cabinet secretary Professor Jacob Kaimenyi has officially released the results for the 2014 KCPE exams. However this time round, schools have not been ranked by performance.

INCREASED PERFORMANCE CANDIDATURE IN KCPE

Kaimenyi has announced that there has been a notable increase in performance (6%) and candidature in this year’s KCPE compared to last year. 889,000 candidates sat for their KCPE in 2014 compared to 844,000 in 2013.

The majority of students are reported to have scored between 201 and 250 marks.

ONE-IN-THREE DROP OUT

Kaimenyi has also raised concerns over the rampant cases of students dropping out and called for an investigation into the matter. The rate of school drop-out this year stands at 33%.

EXAM CHEATING

Exam irregularities this year reportedly increased by a small margin with collusion being cited as the leading form of cheating (99% of cheating cases).

1,072 candidates engaged in exam cheating this year’s KCPE . According to Kaimenyi the English and Swahili papers demonstrated the highest levels of irregularities. “We need to reverse this cheating in languages. It’s disheartening that teachers and parents are involved in cheating”, he said.

15 counties have been commended for practicing zero tolerance to exam irregularities. These include, Tana River, Lamu, Nyandarua, Neri, Machakos, Transnzoia, West Pocket, Vihiga and Shays counties.
