TradeMark East Africa has extended a 1.8 billion shilling grant to the government for the construction of Moi Airport Access Roads. The firm has also pledged to give another additional grant of Sh 2.7 billion to support the Mombasa port infrastructure improvement facilities in order to ease down congestion and enhance efficiency.

The Moi International Airport in Mombasa, which is the country’s second biggest airport after the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, is a key entry point for tourists with more than eighteen airlines serving directly from Europe, and offers connections to more than twenty cities in the region.

On completion of the project, it’s expected that the time goods take to transit from the port will be reduced by approximately two days.

The road as well as other infrastructural improvements at the port of Mombasa are expected to ease traffic congestion to and from the airport and will definitely improve trade in Kenya and the region.

“It will of course increase the speed of traffic and ease down congestion and drive down the cost of business,” said Frank Matsafrt CEO TradeMark East Africa.

In November last year, the government secured Kshs. 5.9 billion from the French Agency for Development (AFD) for the rehabilitation of the Moi international airport.
