ABABU NAMWAMBA SURVIVES VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE BY A WHISKER

Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba survived a probable ouster from his opponents, who had moved a vote of no confidence against him as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The 26 member committee failed to meet the required votes that could see the ODM Secretary General lose his seat. Considering that the committee has 26 members, the no-confidence motion against him required at least 14 supporters, one more than half (50 per cent plus one) but they only raised 13 votes.

PAC vice-chairman Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes,TNA) and Andrew Mwadime (Mwatate ODM) are said to have abstained from voting while two other members were allegedly away on official duty.

The vote of no confidence against Namwamba was moved by Ijara MP Ibrahim Abass and seconded by Kareke Mbiuki (Maara,TNA).

The Budalangi MP also unleashed a dossier of audio recordings, revealing that six MPs had received bribes to set up members of rival coalitions against each other.

As he walked out from the meeting venue on the first floor of the main Parliament Buildings Ababu Namwamba maintained that he was “clean”.

“I am blameless, I am as clean as snow!” he said.

“IT’S NOT OVER”

Ijara has however maintained that Namwamba is not off the hook yet and has vowed to begin a fresh process of collecting signatures, file a fresh petition and have another vote taken.

“On Monday we’ll start collecting signatures afresh. The members who were absent will be there the next time. We have to get that vote that got away,” said Abass
