Waititu, Baba Yao, wins Kabete parliamentary seat

The Jubilee Alliance Party retained its parliamentary seat in Kabete constituency yesterday after Former Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu AKA ‘Baba Yao’ won in the by-election Kabete by a landslide.

Waititu, who had vied for the Nairobi county gubernatorial position but lost to Evans Kidero in the 2013 elections, trounced his opponents after garnering 24,228 votes.

Independent candidate, George Mungai Waiguru, who had casted his net in politics for the first time, followed at a distant second with 268 votes. The other candidates, National Vision Party’s Newton Njenga got 241 votes, while ODM’s Wilson Karanja Kamau got 170 votes.

The Kabete parliamentary seat fell vacant in February this year after former MP George Muchai was shot dead by gangsters as he drove with his bodyguards in the CBD.

WAITITU WIN THREAT FOR GOVERNOR KABOGO

Waititu’s win now complicates matters for Kiambu Governor Kabogo as the former had maintained that come 2017, he would run for Kiambu County’s gubernatorial seat although the County boss has maintained that he is unmoved by Baba Yao’s entry into local politics.

Well, that Waititu is a popular politician is without a doubt and his entrance in active politics will definitely be a game changer in the volatile Kiambu County where Governor William Kabogo has been facing consistent opposition from elected leaders.

MPs Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu), Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika Town), Kigo Njenga (Gatundu North) and Mburu Kahangara (Lari) have for instance accused the governor of making decisions without consulting elected leaders.
