Africa is mourning the loss of yet another literary icon following the demise of popular novelist and playwright Elechi Amadi (82).

The Nigerian novelist, best known for his famous title, The Concubine, died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Port Harcourt Nigeria.

Some of the books he has written include; The Great Ponds, The Slave, Dance of Johannesburg, Sunset in Biafra, Peppersoup and the Woman of Calaber.

His name might not ring a bell for most Kenyans but mention his title The Concubine and the person will go “aha”, indeed Captain Amadi’s work will outlive him.

In December last year, Africa mourned the death of veteran Author Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye and in 2013, the father of African literature, Chinua Achebe, breathed his last.
