There has been a lot of changes and movements within clubs in preparations of the new English Premier League season. From managerial appointments to players transfers all aiming to strengthen their squad and have a better chance of finishing higher than the previous season.
Manchester United appointed former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho to replace Louis Van Gal after United failed to make it to the Champions league. Mourinho who has enjoyed success in previous clubs was seen as the right man to take United back to the top again despite a disappointing season which Chelsea which led to his sacking. Mourinho has since signed three players with a fourth expected before the season commences. The three include former Villa Real defender, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The forth signing is believed to be Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba who is expected to rejoin the club he left 4 years ago due to lack of play time.
It would be an interesting season as Manchester City appointed Pep Gaurdiola who was the closest rival to Mourinho during their time in Spain. The rivalry has been rekindled again but this time in what is considered as the most competitive football league in Europe.
Pep signed, Spanish player Nolito, Former Dortmund deep lying midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Oleksandr Zinchenko and are also chasing the signature of Everton defender, John Stones who it’s reported that he favors a move to City.
Chelsea too have a new coach in Antonio Conte. The Italian coach joined the blues as soon as the Euro cup tournament ended. He has won three consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus before joining the Italian national team until the UEFA Euro 2016 campaign. He has only signed two players so far, Michy Batshuayi, a former Marseille player and N’Gole Kante a player who won the premier league title with Leicester City.
Arsenal are still sticking to Wenger despite not winning the title in the last 11 years. Arsenal missed out last season, finishing second to surprise package, Leicester City. Know not to make stellar signings, they have signed Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, Rob Holding from Bolton and Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Liverpool under Jürgen Klopp have also brought in quite a number of new signings including, Sadio Mane from Southampton, Lorius Karius, Joel Matip, Sadio Mane, Ragnar Klavan, Alex Manninger and Georginio Wijnaldum.
It was interesting especially for the neutrals to see a small club like Leicester challenging for the Premier League title and going ahead to win it. Now everyone is curious to see how the Ranieri led team will fair in the 2016/17 season now that they add the Champions League in the list of games to play. They have done well to try and keep the star players with only one of them, N’Gole Kante, moving to Chelsea. They have also added to their squad, bringing in Ron-Robert Zieler, Luis Hernandez, Nampalys Mendy and Ahmed Musa.
2nd runners up Tottenham Hotspurs also had a good run in the Premier League last season, and were challenging for the title until the last lap where they gave up to Leicester City and at last finishing 3rd behind their bitter rivals, Arsenal. They have brought in former Southampton and Kenyan midfielder, Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar.
The English Premier League has been graced with top managers in the football world and it will be interesting to see who will emerge the winner in May 2017 when the season ends.
