U.S. DEPORTS FIVE MORE KENYANS

5 Kenyans deported from U.S.

Five Kenyans and 67 Somali nationals have landed at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport after being deported from the U.S.

The five Kenyans bring to seven the number of locals who have been deported since Trump was elected president as America cracks down on illegal immigrants.

In January, the US deported 90 Somalis and two Kenyans.  The 67 Somalis will be transported to Mogadishu.

During his campaigns and even after his election, Trump vowed to deport the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants when he launched his campaign in June last year. He promised to create a “deportation force” and to impose criminal penalties on those immigrants whom he painted as “rapists” and “drug dealers”. He also threatened to build a wall along the US-America border as well as cut oversees Aid.

According to the 2014 census, there are 121,300 Kenyans living in the US with about 30,000 said to be there illegally.

Early this week, the US suspended $21m funding for some programmes in the ministry of health in what government critics have attributed to “effects of Trump’s policy”.

However, according to USAID the suspension was a result of corruption and weak accounting procedures.
