TWO CHILDREN RESCUED ALIVE IN PIPELINE’S COLLAPSED BUILDING

two children rescued alive in collapsed building

Two children and a woman were on Tuesday evening rescued alive in the debris of the collapsed building in Embakasi’s Pipeline estate, more than two hours since the seven storey building caved in.

According to the National Disaster Management Unit Deputy Director Pius Masai, 128 tenants had been accounted for by midday on Tuesday but four were still reported missing.

A body was also retrieved but Pius the rescue operation is still ongoing and would for about three to four days adding that accessibility to the collapsed building was a challenge.

“There are other surrounding buildings and one of them is very weak and denying us space,” he said.

Police reports indicate that most tenants had evacuated the building prior to the collapse after it showed visible imminent signs of folding in although others opted to stay put.

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero said the construction of the ill-fated building was never approved by the city hall adding that the county would support the victims.

Last year, another residential building collapsed in Nairobi’s Huruma estate leaving 23 dead.
