THREE KILLED AS AL SHABAAB ATTACK BUS IN LAMU

3 killed in Lamu bus attack

Three people were killed yesterday when suspected Al Shabaab militia attacked a public service bus at Nyongoro area in Witu, Lamu County.

The victims, a boda boda operator and his two passengers were shot as the militia opened fire on the bus.

According to the police, the gunmen shot randomly at the bus from the forest, killing the three victims, who were near the bus, before police officers escorting the vehicle came to the passengers’ rescue.

There have been increased terror attacks in Lamu County in the past few months by the Al Shabaab, who are believed to be hiding in Boni forest.

The militia hijacked Public Works Principal Secretary Miriam El Maawy last month but luckily she was rescued following a swift operation by Kenya Defence Forces and GSU commandos.

Early last month Acting interior CS Fred Matiang’i imposed a three-month dusk to dawn curfew in Lamu and Tana River and Garissa counties in an effort to control the increased attacks by the militia.

MANDERA ATTACKS

A police officer was killed and two police cars torched yesterday following an Al Shabaab attack at Lafey police post in Mandera County on Thursday.

The attackers also escaped with one police car in the Thursday dawn attack.
