Kenya Sevens settles for Silver in Honkong

The Kenya 7ns, popularly referred to as Shujaas came so close to an historic win at the finals of the World Rugby Series final in Hong Kong but lost once again to Fiji to settle for silver.

Shujaa’s lost 24-12 to Fiji to come in second ahead of South Africa, which finished third after beating New Zealand.

The Kenya Sevens team had put up a sterling performance in the journey to the Hong Kong finals, thrashing Spain 26-0, Canada 33-10 and Australia (26-28) in the pool stages, Scotland (19-12) in the quarter finals and subsequently New Zealand (21-12) in the semi finals.

Canada Sevens 

Last month the Shujaa’s also lost to Fiji 32-12 in the main Cup final of Canada Sevens at the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Prior to the Canada sevens, Fiji and Kenya last met in the finals of Singapore Sevens in 2016 where Kenya7ns beat Fijians 30-7 to the historic win of Kenya’s first HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title.

The Kenya7ns now stand at position seven in the World Series table after six HSBC7s legs with a total of 83 points.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES 2018

Kenya 7ns now shifts their focus on Gold Coast Commonwealth Games due April 4-15 in Australia.
