The family of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has announced that she will be buried on October 18.

Ms Otieno’s body will in accordance with the Luo traditions, be brought to their homestead on October 17 for an overnight stay and then she will be buried at her grandfather’s homestead.

The family had vowed not to bury their daughter until her killers are brought to book, saying burying her will cause the issue to be forgotten.

They had however buried her seven-month foetus three weeks ago saying preserving it was costly.

According to Sharon Otieno’s father, Douglas Otieno, the decision to bury their daughter was arrived at because they are now optimistic that they will get justice.

“We have seen suspects connected to her murder arraigned in court. We are happy with the investigations so far and believe her killers will pay for their crimes,” he said.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who confessed to having had an affair with the slain woman, is among the key suspects charged with Sharon’s murder.

Obado is still in remand awaiting a court ruling on his bail application.
