PARLIAMENT APPROVES NOMINEES FOR POLICE COMMISSION

The National Assembly on Thursday approved six candidates to serve in the National Police Service Commission.

The six, who include Mr the chairman Eliud Kinuthia, were nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The rest are Lilian Kiamba, Mr Eusebius Laibuta, Mr Naphtaly Rono, Dr Alice Otwala and Mr John Ole Moyaki.

Mr Eliud Kinuthia will chair the commission, which was headed by Mr Johnston Kavuludi, whose six-year term ended in October last year.

Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende was among those who had applied to be the chairperson of the commission.

The commissioners will now start the recruitment of the successor ofInspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, whose term ends this month.

The National Police Service Commission is one of the independent commissions established under Chapter Fifteen of the Constitution 2010, and handles the human resource management function of the Police Service, which was previously under the Public Service Commission.

The NPSC became operational on 5th October 2012 after the appointment of six Commissioners; Chairman, Johnston Kavuludi; the Vice Chairperson, Esther Chui Colombini; Ronald Leposo Musengi; Mary Auma Owuor; Murshid. A. Mohamed and Dr. Maj. (Rtd) Shadrack Muiu.
