DENNIS ITUMBI TO SPEND FIVE MORE DAYS IN CUSTODY

Dennis Itumbi arrested over Ruto assassination allegations

Dennis Itumbi, former  State House Digital Director will be spending five more days behind cells after Detectives on Thursday requested more time to conclude investigations in the case surrounding a controversial letter alleging an assassination plot against the DP.

Itumbi, who works in the DP’s office as Digital Secretary, was arrested on Wednesday over the letter that saw four Cabinet Secretaries summoned to the DCI headquarters on June 24, 2019, over the ‘murder plot targeting Ruto.

Three CSs who showed up at the DCI; Peter Munya (Trade), Joseph Mucheru (ICT), and Sicily Kariuki (Health), rubbished the assassination claims, which they are purportedly said to have hatched at a meeting held in Hotel La Mada on Thika Road.

“I think it is irresponsible, unfair and intended to portray us in a very bad light so that we look like criminals who meet to plot criminal activities against him. It is also intended to injure our reputation as law-abiding citizens, ” said CS Munya who spoke on behalf of the group.

Munya further faulted Ruto for not following the legal procedure over the issue.

“The standard procedure is that if someone makes an allegation of that nature, he is required by law to record a statement; the deputy president has not recorded any statement,” Munya said.

“These are very serious allegations especially coming from the person of the stature of the deputy president occupying an extremely powerful and important office in this land,” he added.

Detectives at the weekend said investigations into the alleged assassination plot had narrowed down to two aides suspected to have generated and circulated the letter. Itumbi allegedly posted the letter in a WhatsApp group of the Tangatanga team allied to Mr Ruto.

Mr. Itumbi told the court that he had a video to prove his claims that indeed there was a meeting held at Hotel La Mada whose agenda was to kill the DP but the magistrate did not comment on the plea.
