Eliud Kipchoge Completes INEOS Challenge in Under 2 Hours

Kenya’s flag flew high across the globe over the weekend as World record holder Eliud Kipchoge shattered the two-hour barrier, to make a historic – 1:59.40.2 – finish at the INEOS 1:59 challenge, while Brigid Kosgei went ahead to smash 16-year old women’s marathon record.

Kipchoge beat his official record of 2:1:39 by 1:59. In just 14 minutes and 10 seconds, the stunning athlete had already covered 5km and covered the next 5km at the same pace.

Brigid Kosgei Breaks World Record

Then came the 25-year-old, Brigid Kosgei, who win the Chicago Marathon and broke the world record while at it in a record two hours, 14 minutes and four seconds (2:14:4).

Brigid Kosgei broke the 2:15:25, 16-year-old record, that had been set by Paula Radcliffe in the London Marathon on April 13, 2003.

Brigid Kosgei smashed world record in Chicago

Lawrence Cherono also won a men’s race  in 2:05:45

Historic Kenya now holds world marathon records both in the marathon and half marathon.
