COVID-19 Cases in Kenya Decline

Rashid Aman, Chief administrative secretary in the Ministry of Health

The number of new COVID-19 infections in Kenya has been slowing down in the last couple of weeks.

According to Rashid Aman, Chief administrative secretary in the Ministry of Health, the country has been on course to flattening the COVID-19 curve, owing to strict adherence to containment measures like hand washing, wearing of masks and social distancing.

“The country’s declining COVID-19 infections and fatalities is a reaffirmation that adherence to public health guidelines like proper hygiene, wearing of face masks and avoiding large gatherings have paid dividends,” he said.

Rashid Aman however, cautioned Kenyans not to get complacent and risk triggering another wave of infections.

“Flouting of the containment measures by our people remains a major concern. The mandatory requirement of wearing a face mask in public places is not being adhered to in many parts of the country,” the CAS stated.

According to the latest reports issued by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday, only 104 new positive COVID-19 cases were recorded from 2,285 samples tested since Tuesday.

8 people succumbed to COVID-19 related complications in Kenya on Wednesday, bringing the total deaths caused by Coronavirus in the country to 607. On Tuesday, there were no fatalities recorded.

“Today, we have not registered any death from the disease. Our fatality therefore still remains at 599. We thank our healthcare workers for the good work they are doing in saving the lives of our people,” said CAS, Dr. Rashid.

Kenya has recorded 35,460 COVID-19 cases since March when the first infection was detected, while the total number of recoveries in the country as at Wednesday stood at  21, 557.
