Getting a passport in Kenya just got easier.

Life in Kenya is becoming that bit easier thanks to the application of new technology. Nowadays, thanks to online processing of crucial documents like applying for a KRA pin and provisions to pay for bills through mobile cash transfers, we have been saved the agony, at least in part, of the trademark long queues that have in the past been the prerequisite of getting anything done.

The latest advance is good news for many Kenyans: it will now only take just five days for applicants with the proper documentation to be issued a national passport, down from the previous 10 days plus.

IMMIGRATION SERVICES: MAJOR RESTRUCTURING AND RESHUFFLE

The Director of Immigration Services, Jane Waikenda, made the announcement on Tuesday adding that she is overseeing the restructuring of immigration procedures in order to seal all loopholes and counter corruption.

She also intimated that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is auditing the immigration office and reviewing integrity tests of the officers.

“A major reshuffle of immigration officers has also been done to address complacency in the service”, Ms Waikenda said, adding that the changes will be done regularly.

IMMIGRATION DIRECTOR CREATES MEASURES TO IMPROVE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

According to Waikenda’s directive, all immigration officers will now be required to be always in full uniform and display their name tags to guard against unscrupulous con men and in a bid to enhance customer service. The immigration director also gave a hotline number of 020 231 0090 which members of the public can use for immediate feedback.

Good work Ms Waikenda, says the Kenya Forum, keep it up.
