Gunshots fired at Orange house in ODM nominations row

Gunshots were fired at Orange house yesterday to disperse protesters accompanying Sen. Elizabeth Ongoro and 20 MCA aspirants who were protesting in demand fair nominations.

A plain clothed police officer was forced to shoot in the air to disperse the irate crowd, which was roughing up ODM Executive Director Oduor Ongwen.

Nominated senator Ongoro has accused the party of short-changing her by handing a direct nomination to incumbent Ruaraka Member of Parliament TJ Kajwang.

She maintained that she will be in the ballot on a NASA ticket even if it’s not with ODM but with a party affiliated to the coalition

ODM nomination process turns nasty

“I will be in NASA and I am not coming out of the race. No more intimidation. Enough of this nonsense,” Ongoro said.

“Women candidates are being mistreated. I have fought for this party for a long time but anytime I want a seat I am told to do something else. Let me fight this battle for the sake of women aspirants.” she said

The party has announced that it will give direct nominations to some candidates and has already issued more than 850 candidates with nomination certificates. The certificates were issued in a ceremony presided by Party leader Raila at the Bomas of Kenya early this week

The latest nominations row sparks memories of the famous Men in Black, who stormed Kasarani in April 2014 and disrupted ODM’s elections.
