Waitutu beats Kabogo by huge margin in Kiambu County

All the focus yesterday was on the Kiambu county jubilee party primaries where the incumbent governor, William Kabogo was facing off Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.

It was a race christened the clash of the titans owing to the influence both candidates command while at the same time factoring in Waititu’s massive popularity everyone was certain that indeed the race was not just going to be a walk in the park for the incumbent.

What many spectators did not see coming, however, was the immense votes Waititu alias Baba Yao garnered against his rival, giving him an unforeseen humiliating defeat.

Early provisional results began to show Waititu leading by over 10,000 votes and even before the tallying officially closed, Kabogo called a press conference and “conceded” defeat.

“To the people of Kiambu County, it was great serving you” Kabogo said.

“I wish Ferdinand Waititu all the best. But what I will tell him is that managing a county is not easy. There is a lot of work that has to be put into running a County Government,” he said.

He, however, maintained that he was not really conceding defeat and went ahead to cite irregularities in the exercise, saying it was “shambolic” and further citied that “someone at the top of the jubilee party did not want him as governor”.

“I have not conceded defeat. I am not going to waste my time arguing things that are bloody obvious. You can read between the lines,” said a visibly distraught Kabogo.

The Punjab Derby: Waititu Vs Kabogo

Kenyans, as usual, took to social media to air their reactions on the surprising turn of events with many comparing the Waititu win against Kabogo to that of Trump Vs Hillary in the US elections.

The Punjab Derby as they wittingly referred to the battle between the two rivals, in reference to the assertions that they both went to Punjab university in India, had come to a close.
