ALLEN GICHUHI WINS LSK PRESIDENTIAL POLL

Allen Gichuhi

Lawyer Allen Gichuhi is set to become the next president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) based on provisional results of the elections held on Thursday.

According to the provisional results Gichuhi garnered 2,675 votes to beat his rival James Aggrey Mwamu, who managed 2,145 votes in 38 polling stations.

Allen Gichuhi will be succeeding Isaac Okero. Gichuhi was contesting for the LSK presidency for the second time.

This will be his third attempt for Mwamu at the presidency, having run and lost to former LSK President Kenneth Akide in 2010 and again lost to Isaac Okero in 2016.

Harriette Chiggai beat her main rival Joy Masinde to be elected the society’s vice president.

The official results of the LSK polls will be announced on Saturday afternoon by The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, which presided over the polls.

Nairobi lawyer Nelson Havi had sued the LSK for locking him out of the elections on grounds that he lacked the requisite 15 years’ experience.

On February 6 High Court judge John Mativo however ruled in LSK favour, saying that the society’s decision was not discriminatory.

The LSK elections, were to be held last year but were postponed twice.
