The Kenya Sevens national rugby team has been named as Brand Kenya ambassadors, in a new marking campaign dubbed #MakeItKenya.

The #MakeItKenya campaign, an eight-month long worldwide tour, is aimed at promoting Kenya abroad.

According to Brand Kenya Board Direct Chris Diaz, the partnership is aimed at positioning Kenya to the world as a transformative and competitive global brand to attract tourism, trade and investments.

“Having Shujaa as part of the country’s global ambassadors will enable the board to activate a local and global campaign, given that rugby remains one of the biggest social events in the world,” he said.

The team led by Innocent Simiyu will wear jerseys printed; Make It Kenya on the front and will spread positive messaging about the country in their international and local tournaments.

The Kenya Sevens team is preparing to for the London sevens between the 2nd and 3rd of June.

Shujaa’s lost narrowly to Fiji to come in second at the just concluded World Rugby Series final in Hong Kong. In March, the Kenya sevens team also lost to Fiji 32-12 in the main Cup final of Canada Sevens at the World Rugby Sevens Series.

In 2016 the Shujaas made history after beating Fijians 30-7 to the historic win of Kenya’s first HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series title.
