The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has already shortlisted 12 candidates for the chairperson position to replace Sarah Serem, whose tenure has elapsed.

Among those shortlisted include Fred Abednego Odhiambo, Okuku Nakitari Humphrey, Simeon Pkiyach Pkatey, Irene Wangui Gikemi, Patrick Ngumi, Ben Chumo, Jane Musangi Mutua, Peter O. ole Nkuraiyia and Abdirizak Arale Nunow.

Others are Samuel Kibati Osoro, Ephraim Ngare and Cherop Mengich.

The Sarah Serem-led team tenure ended in 2017 December.

SRC Selection Panel Chairperson Mary Kimonye has said interviews will take place between 4th -6th June and subsequently both the Senate and PSC will pick two nominees each and forward the names to the Cabinet Secretary Public Service, who will then  submit the names to the President.

The President will then pick one from each for appointment as SRC commissioners.

The Serem-chaired commission led had been under constant intimidation by parliament for its effort to reduce perks especially for the MPs.

The legislators have previously accused SRC of unfairly scrapping their Sh5 million car grant, Sh5, 000 per committee sitting and House plenary allowances. The Parliamentary Commission is required to nominate one candidate on the SRC team as stipulated in the constitution.

The Senate is also required under Article 230 of the Constitution to nominate one person ; “The SRC should consist of a chairperson, one person each nominated by the Parliamentary Service Commission, Public Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, National Police Service Commission, Teachers Service Commission the Defence Council and the Senate on behalf of the county governments”.

Last month, parliament voted to convert SRC into full time commission that will see commissioners now serve on permanent basis.
