ADEN MARWA FIRST KENYAN REFEREE TO OFFICIATE IN WORLD CUP FALLS FOR $600 BRIBE

Aden Marwa exposed by BBC for SH 60,00 bribe

Aden Marwa, who made history by becoming the first Kenyan to be appointed by FIFA as an Assistant Referee in the World Cup 2018 has been removed after accepting a $600 (Kshs. 60,000/-) bribe from a Ghanaian Investigative Journalist in an undercover expose’ for the BBC.

In a secretly recorded video, Marwa is captured taking the 60K bribe from Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who posed as a match official,  just before a football match.

The BBC expose’ sought to find out how much referees receive in bribes to fix matches.

In his capacity as assistant referee in the World Cup, Aden Marwa was geared to rake in about Sh 2.5 million in fees.

Marwa has since resigned from the 2018 FIFA World Cup refereeing team.

Two Ghanaian football officials, Executive Committee Members of the GFA, Kweku Eyiah and John Frederick (JF) Mensah, rejected the bribes.

Scores of other officials who include referees and coaches fell for the bait.

The BBC documentary titled #Number 12 is set premiere on Thursday at 10:00pm EST .
