WHO RAPED MOI GIRLS STUDENT?

Parents protest over MOI GIRLS rape saga

DNA samples taken from male teachers and non-teaching staff at Moi girls do not match those of the Moi girl’s student that was allegedly raped in the school last month.

According to results from the government laboratory, which were released on Tuesday, the samples taken from 32 men who were in the school compound at the time of the incident did not match those taken from the victim.

The findings of the DNA report could mean that the offender was possibly an outsider, which then raises security concerns of students in boarding facilities, a deduction that Nairobi director of criminal investigations (DCI) Chief Ireri Kamwende says is possible.

Although the DNA findings have dimmed hopes of nabbing the rapist as officials had largely focused on the 32 staff members at Moi girls as the main suspects, Kamwende has said that they will still continue with investigations until the suspect is apprehended.

Medical reports carried on the 15-year-old form two student confirmed that she was indeed sexually assaulted in her the school compound on the night of June 4.

The victim told detectives that her attacker had pounced on her at about 2 am as she left her cubicle to use the washroom.

The incident sparking a public uproar with parents and concerned citizens calling for the resignation of the principal, especially since the rape incident was coming hot in the heels of the dormitory inferno that left seven students dead in 2017.

The school’s board of management was disbanded and Principal Jael Muriithi was forced to go on early retirement as part of the administrative action taken by Education CS Amina Mohamed.
