MOI GRANTED “EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS” TO THE NAME KABARAK

Moi granted “Kabarak” Trademark

The Kenya Industrial Property Institute (Kipi) has issued a trademark to former retired president Daniel Moi for the name “Kabarak”.

Therefore, no organisation can sell or market any goods or services under the name “Kabarak” without seeking Moi’s permission.

Kabarak, which in Kalenjin means high or elevated, is the name of the town in the constituency where Moi hails from in Nakuru county.

Moi through his lawyer, Mr Tom Ojienda, applied for the trademark for 45 classes in 2016 and was eventually granted the licences after no one raised an objection.

The former President owns Kabarak High School and Kabarak University.

Anyone who uses the trademarked name “Kabarak” henceforth risks jail or a Sh 200,000 fine.
