GOVERNOR OBADO FREED IN GUNS CASE

Migori governor Okoth Obado

Migori governor Okoth Obado has been granted bail in the recent gun case surrounding him.

A Magistrate at the Kibera Law Courts, Joyce Gandani, dismissed an application by the prosecution to detain him for a further 15 days pending investigations. She granted the Migori governor a bond of Sh500, 000 with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh200, 000.

“There are no compelling reasons shown to justify the denial of bond here and after considering all the factors here, I am satisfied that the respondent is not a flight risk and will appear for trial if need be and is not likely to tamper with the evidence or witnesses,” she stated.

She, however, cautioned Obado not to interfere with any witnesses or the bond will be canceled.

“The respondent is ordered not to interfere by himself or his agents with the ongoing investigations, failure of which the bond will be canceled,” the magistrate warned.

Obado, who is out on another bond in the Sharon Otieno murder case was, arrested on Wednesday after guns were allegedly found in his house during a search by anti-corruption police.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives had raided his home on Tuesday in search of crucial documents that could aid their investigations on an alleged misappropriation of Sh2 billion in Migori County.

The Migori governor has spent a month in remand at the Industrial Area prison before he was granted bail on October 24  for the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, whom he had an affair with. Obado was charged alongside his three aides.
