DUSIT D2 RIVERSIDE ATTACK COINCIDES WITH 2016 El ADDE ATTACK

KDF pays tribute to El Adde attack fallen soldiers at a past event

The Tuesday 16th  afternoon incident that saw terrorists attack civilians at the luxurious Dusit D2 hotel in 14 Riverside drive coincided with the anniversary of the fateful El Adde attack in Somalia that saw Al Shabaab overrun a Kenya Army base in 2016.

EL Edde Attack

In January 17, 2016, Al-Shabaab ambushed a KDF base in El Adde, Somalia, leaving at least 63 soldiers dead, in an assault described as the worst in the military since Operation Linda Nchi was launched in 2011.

The Al-Shabaab reportedly used three vehicle-borne improvised devices (VBIED) commandeered by suicide bombers to attack both the KDF and the Somali National Army (SNA) camps.

Several soldiers were also taken hostage (prisoners of war) by the terrorists and up to date, their whereabouts are unknown.

The Dusit terror attack in some way served to add a blanket to the silence that has often surrounded the El Adde attack as the government never issued any official account surrounding the attack and Kenyans have always remained n the dark about what exactly transpired that fateful night? Just how many soldiers were killed and how many were taken as prisoners of war?

DEATH TOLL OF RIVERSIDE ATTACK RISES TO 21

The death toll of the recent attack in Nairobi has since risen to 21 from the 14 that was reported by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday in his state address as more victims succumbed to injuries and more bodies were discovered in the hotel.

According to Red Cross, 14 people are still unaccounted for and are reported missing by friends and family.
