The body of missing human rights activist Caroline Mwatha was on Tuesday found in city mortuary in what the family says is “unclear circumstances”.

According to a police statement, Ms Mwatha was allegedly five months pregnant and died while procuring an abortion at a clinic in Dandora and was taken to the city mortuary the same day she went missing.

The police have arrested six people already including the alleged owner of the clinic in connection to the alleged botched abortion and disposal of the body.

Human rights activist and Mwatha’s family have refuted the police narrative, saying the body had a deep cut on the thigh and marks on the neck.

The family had looked for the deceased in the city mortuary on three different days when she went missing but didn’t find her.

According to The police, the body had reportedly been booked under a different name.

Caroline Mwatha went missing since Wednesday 6th February allegedly after seeing off her daughter to school.
