Kenyans have taken to social media to condemn the government for being lax in controlling the spread of Coronavirus in Kenya.

The uproar has been occasioned by the recent move that saw 239 passengers aboard a  China Southern airline flight from Guangdong allowed in the Country on Wednesday and the passengers only advised to “self-quarantine for 14 days”.

Precautionary Screenings

Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, however, said there was no cause for alarm “because all precautionary measures are in place and everybody who comes into the country is screened adequately.

“Those people coming from China have been screened. Nobody gets on a plane without screening to ensure they are not at risk,” said Oguna.

The Chinese embassy in Kenya has also reassured Kenyans that they are working together with the Kenyan government to prevent the importation of COVID-19 into Kenya and defended the 14-day self-quarantine directive.

According to the embassy, the 14-Day self-quarantine is one of china’s epidemic prevention and control experiences.

“Chinese nationals entering Kenya should cooperate with the ministry of health and strictly isolate themselves for 14 days,” the Embassy said in a statement.

China Southern Airlines resumed flights from Guangzhou to Nairobi JKIA on 26th February.

The novel coronavirus disease 2019, which has been officially named Covid-19, has so far affected 80,239 people and killed 2700 people according to the latest stats by the World health organization (WHO).
