NHIF CEO Peter Kamunyo has said that All healthcare workers admitted in government hospitals for Covid will have their bills waived.

The announcement comes in the wake of a countrywide doctors strike.

Doctors have been decrying poor working conditions and lack of a medical cover for those who get infected with COVID-19. The outcry has been exacerbated by the death of 28-year-old Dr Stephen Mogusu, who succumbed to the virus.

Doctors in Kenya want the health ministry to pay the outstanding bills of medics who have died from complications arising from Covid-19. They also want the government to pay compensation to their families.

Pressure continues to mount on the National Hospital Insurance Fund to also extend its cover to cater for Kenyans who incur Covid-19-related expenses. NHIF has maintained that it will only covet civil servants.

On Monday, the Teachers Service Commission announced its medical scheme will cover Covid-19.
