India has been battling a devastating second wave of Covid-19 that is killing thousands each day.

The second wave, which began in March, has seen India recording more than a million new cases in just three days.

On Monday, India reported 352,991 new cases and 2,812 virus-related deaths, marking the world’s highest daily caseload for the fifth straight day.

India, with a population of 1.3 billion, has a tally of 17.31 million infections and 195,123 deaths.

Medical facilities in the country have been overrun, and short of oxygen and ICU beds with pictures and footage that have been circulating online showing the magnitude of the health crisis in India that has left hundreds of patients laying desperately outside hospitals waiting for medical attention.

Countries across the globe, including Britain, Germany and the United States, have pledged support to India to help provide the much-needed medical supplies.

Biden admin says U.S. will “provide support to India amid Covid surge, including making available specific raw material required to manufacture vaccines, therapeutics, rapid diagnostic test kits, ventilators, and PPE, and looking into oxygen generation supplies”.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all citizens to get vaccinated and exercise caution.

CDC Cautions Against Travel to India

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has cautioned travelers against traveling to India following the high level of COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

“Travelers should avoid all travel to India. Because of the current situation in India even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19,” CDC.
