COLOMBIA 2-1 IVORY COAST
Colombia officially booked their ticket to the second round of the competition after breaking down Ivory Coast, which is arguably the best African team so far in Brazil.
James Rodriguez and Juan Quintero scored for Colombia and Gervinho netted in a consolation goal for the Elephants. However not all hope is lost for Ivory Coast as it still has a final group match on 24th June with Greece . A win in this match will see the elephants through the last 16 round.
JAPAN FAIL TO BREAK 10 MAN GREECE
GREECE 0-0 JAPAN
Greece played with 10 men after their captain got his second booking in the 38th minute, but the team still held on to a goalless draw with Japan. After C. Katsouranis was given his matching orders, the Greek adopted a defensive set up and held firm. Japan failed to take advantage and even the introduction of Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa could not help break the deadlock.
UNFIT SUAREZ BEAT THE THREE LIONS
ENGLAND 1-2 URUGUAY
England stand on the brink of an early exit of the World Cup 2014 after the Liverpool striker Luiz Suarez scored a brace to send Roy Hodgson’s men to the bottom of group D. The Uruguay coach Óscar Tabárez, risked to have Suarez play regardless of being unfit but it was eventually worth it even though Suarez limped off minutes after his winning goal.
Now the fate of England is not in their hands and they just have to wait for the results of tonight’s clash between Italy and Costa Rica.
