GOAT Kipchoge Keino Shines Yet Again

Double Olympic champion and world record holder Kipchoge Keino has defended his title once again after winning the 2020 Tokyo Marathon, winning his second straight Olympic gold medal in the men’s marathon

Kipchoge finished the men’s marathon in two hours, eight minutes and 38 seconds. At 36 years old, Eliud Kipchoge is the oldest winner of the men’s Olympic marathon since Carlos Lopes won it at 37 years old in 1984.

The Olympic dream is a special dream. For every athlete here it has taken a lifetime of preparation to get to this point. Today I lived my Olympic dream. I always say that sport is like life, whereby you can win and lose. But today was a day where I won,” Eliud Kipchoge said in a tweet.

Eliud Kipchoge is the third man in history to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the marathon. In over 8 years Kipchoge has run 17 marathon races and he’s only lost two. He’s the marathon’s world record holder and he’s the only man to run in under two hours in a marathon.

“I can say I successfully defended my Olympic title. I want to share thanks to the people of Japan and the Olympic organization for an incredible job in making these Olympics happen.   A running world is a happy world. #NoHumanIsLimited,” he further added.

Kenya’s Peres Jepchirchir Wins Women’s Marathon

Peres Jepchirchir won the Olympic women’s marathon on Saturday ahead of compatriot and world record holder Brigid Kosgei, who finished second.

Jepchirchir beat Kosgei in the closing stages to win in two hours 27 minutes 20 seconds while American Molly Seidel took bronze.

Kenya’s 1-2 result in the Tokyo 2020 Women’s Marathon race made the country the first ever to take both gold and silver in the category in the Olympics history.

Faith Kipyegon also retained her Olympic women’s 1500m title after finishing ahead of Great Britain’s Laura Muir.
