The 28-year-old environmentalist Elizabeth Wathuti is the recipient of this year’s Time 100 Impact Award.
Wathuti was, on September 13, named as the recipient of this year’s award alongside Ayushmann Khurrana, Singer Eric Nam, actor Ke Huy Quan and activist Zainab Salbi.
TIME Chief Executive Officer Jessica Sibley, while announcing the recipients, said they were honoring the winners for their remarkable achievements.
“We are thrilled to honor and recognize the 2023 Time 100 Impact Award winners for their remarkable accomplishments. The award speaks to the heart of our mission to spotlight the people and ideas that shape and improve the world,” she said.
Wathuti receives Time Impact Award award in Singapore
“I am profoundly honored to accept the Time Impact Award here in Singapore. Humbled to represent and put Kenya on the global map, a powerful affirmation of the incredible potential within Africa’s youth.”
Wathuti is the founder of the Green Generation Initiative, which nurtures young people to love nature and be environmentally conscious at a young age. Through the Green Generation Initiative, 30,000 tree seedlings have been planted in Kenya.
She says she draws inspiration from the late climate activist Wangari Mathai.
