The trailer of the much awaited movie, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, which is an adaptation of the 2011 erotic best-selling novel by British author E. L. James has finally been released and it has officially been reported as the most viewed trailer of 2014.
According to data from technology firm Zefr as cited by the Hollywood Reporter, Fifty Shades has garnered 36.4 million YouTube views since its official release on July 24, which is reported as the best opening week for any trailer this year.
The previous high was the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (31 million views) in March followed by Godzilla and Transformers; Age of Extinction which both attracted 26.3 million views in their first weeks.
The plot of the trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey, which is followed by the second and third volumes, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, revolves around a developing relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. Explicit and erotic scenes are the dominating mood of the book.
Fifty Shades of Grey has topped best-seller lists around the world, including in the United Kingdom and the United States. The trilogy has sold over 100 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 52 languages, setting a record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time
Well, the trailer is out but the movie Fifty Shades will not be available in theatres until next year’s Valentine’s Day weekend, February 13.
