Unilever will partner with MOFILM to set up an academy for filmmakers in Kenya. Other academies will be brought to South Africa and Nigeria.

Kenya to benefit from Unilever initiative

Kenya has become one of the three countries in Africa after Nigeria and South Africa, whose filmmakers will benefit from a new initiative by Unilever and MOFILM.

The initiative dubbed the, Academy for African Filmmakers (AAF), seeks to nurture and develop film-making expertise from across Africa. According to MOFILM, the AAF will be an intensive course which will be created and delivered by experts from the film-making industry and will cover several aspects of filmmaker theory and practice, with a focus on developing the storytelling skills.

The AAF‘s will run on three days and is a free opportunity for filmmakers between the ages of 16 and 30.

AAF’s mission is to empower, nurture and celebrate African film-making talent. Its aim is to develop expertise through working on actual briefs and participants stand the chance of getting funding for their work as well as the possibility of seeing their finished films broadcast.

MOFILM has been Inspiring filmmakers and musicians to create advertising and video content for big brands and social events. Recently, MOFILM engaged African filmmakers to create the next advertisement for Guinness. Musicians also get a platform to provide famous tracks for brands.

MOFILM runs multiple major video competitions every year, offering millions of dollars in prizes to filmmakers plus the chance to travel to unforgettable destinations around the world, including London Film Festival, Rio, Lollapalooza, Taj Mahal, GSM Barcelona, Tribeca Film Festival, Consumer Electronics Show Las Vegas, Cannes Lions and many others.

Kenya’s film industry is emerging at a tremendous pace and the AAF initiative has come in at the right time.
