According to Acting Health Director-General Patrick Amoth, 15 infections were recorded in Kibra on Wednesday and 13 more cases on Thursday, making the area the latest COVID-19 hotspot in Nairobi.
Kibera has in the past two days recorded increasing numbers of people who have tested positive for COVID-19, which could possibly see the vast slum put on a lock down.
According to Acting Health Director-General Patrick Amoth, 15 infections were recorded in Kibra on Wednesday and 13 more cases on Thursday, making the area the latest COVID-19 hotspot in Nairobi.
Eastleigh and Kawangware estates have already been identified as COVID-19 hotspots in the country, with the former currently facing a 21 day lockdown.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Thursday confirmed that a 6 year old baby has tested positive for Corona virus, becoming the youngest COVID-19 patient so far.
“The myth that young people can’t get the disease….. Today we reported a six months old baby who is among those confirmed to have coronavirus, and this is where again there are certain protocols,” Mr Kagwe said.
Mutahi Kagwe further warned that some patients who had already recovered from corona virus were exhibiting new symptoms for the disease that are different from the initial flu-like symptoms associated with the virus.
According to the CS, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe warned that patients are now starting to experience gastric intestinal distress syndrome that leads to loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and chickenpox-like rashes.
These symptoms are reportedly to have been recorded largely in the U.S, U.K, Italy and Spain.
“As to Covid-19, we are noticing some interesting trends developing globally, that you may wish to be aware of. As the virus continues to spread the infected persons are increasingly exhibiting new, less typical, none respiratory symptoms such as sudden strokes in young people and multi-system inflammatory symptoms, “said Mr. Kagwe .
Kenya recorded 80 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday after testing 3,102 samples, bringing the national tally to 1,109,according to the latest update by the Health ministry.
The total number of recoveries as at Thursday stands at 375.
