8 killed in suspected Al-Shabaab attack

At least seven Administration Police officers and one civilian were reportedly killed yesterday (Wednesday) morning when an armoured car was destroyed by a landmine explosion in the Baure area near Lamu. Kenyan police currently think the attack was the work of Al Shabaab militants.

The police officers from the Mangai Rapid Border Patrol Unit operating in Lamu East were travelling from Mangai to Mukoe when the attack took place at about 9am.

Although reports from the area are as yet confused it seems that following the explosion police officers from  Baure camp rushed to the scene but in turn were attacked when they were they came under fire.

The police reportedly fought off the attack and then found the bodies of colleagues at the scene of the explosion.

The attack comes just a week since eight Administration Police Officers were killed in separate attacks, three in Garissa and five in Mandera.
