Police officers were confronted by furious residents in Lowareng’ak village on Tuesday who allege they are involved in drug trafficking across the border with Ethiopia.

The villagers blocked a police vehicle on suspicion that it was transporting bhang. They attempted to waylay the vehicle near the Kenya-Ethiopia border but the drive drove away at speed and other police officers took refuge at the Lowareng’ak Police Post in Turkana North.

Running battles were reported as residents sought to find out what the police car was carrying.

Residents say they have informed the local authorities about their suspicions and an investigation is supposedly underway at an Area/County level.
