IEBC ALLOWS NASA TO HAVE PARALLEL TALLYING CENTER

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has given NASA and other political parties the go ahead to have parallel tallying centers but has maintained that only the commission has the mandate to  announce the winners of the August elections.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said that the centers would be strictly “for internal use only”

“Parties recognize that it is the mandate of the IEBC to announce and declare the results of an election.  However, political parties and media may monitor, tally and verify the results for the own internal use,” said Chebukati in a joint statement.

The media has also been allowed to monitor the results using modalities within the law.

The decision was arrived at following a half an hour meeting between NASA officials and the IEBC.

IEBC had earlier on dismissed NASA’s planned parallel tallying centers and declared them illegal

Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Sunday announced that NASA will do a parallel tally and release its results after the August polls.
