ODM Moves to have Orengo Replace Wetangula as Minority Leader

ODM senators have resolved to have Siaya senator James Orengo replace Moses Wetangula and NASA co-principal as their minority leader in the senate.

The senators expressed their decision in a letter to the Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.

“By a letter dated March 15 the Senate Minority Whip Mutula Kilonzo Jnr informed me of a resolution by 16 ODM Senators to remove Senator Moses Masika Wetang’ula and to appoint Senator James Aggrey Orengo as the new Senate Minority Leader with immediate effect,” Lusaka informed the House.

The ODM senators say that they are the majority in the house and wants Wetangula, who belongs to Ford Kenya out. ODM has 20 Senators compared to Ford Kenya which has one.

Wetangula has however maintained that he is still the minority leader as the ODM senators have not adhered to the legal channel in replacing him.

“All the appointments in this House came from the PG of NASA and not from ODM. NASA is a coalition,” said Wetangula.

Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has however suspended the decision to oust Wetangula until the NASA coalition appoints a replacement following the prescribed manner.

“The removal of Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Senate Minority Leader though valid, stands suspended and will not take effect unless and until a Senator has been elected by the NASA Coalition in the manner provided by Standing Order 20(1) has occurred and the communication to that effect together with the minutes evidencing that decision has been made in writing, to my office by the Senate Minority Whip,” the Speaker said.

ANC, Wiper and Ford Kenya headed by Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka & Moses Wetangula had earlier today dared ODM to quit NASA.
