EACC probing Ksh.11.5B unexplained wealth of Kidero, Sonko, Waititu & Governor Lenolkulal

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is probing the alleged illegal acquisition of properties worth Ksh.11.5 billion by one sitting governor and three former governors.

According to EACC, the commission is seeking to recover the Ksh.11.5 billion from Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal, Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu), and former Nairobi county bosses Evans Kidero and Mike Sonko.

EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala revealed the information on Tuesday when he appeared before the Senate Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

Ksh.2 billion Daily Rate of Corruption in Kenya

President Kenyatta recently admitted that graft in Kenya is indeed getting out of hand and is costing the country Ksh.2 billion every day.

War Against Corruption – EACC Scorecard

The anti-graft commission has seized assets worth Ksh.25 billion stolen from the public over the last five years and probed 1,000 corruption cases, with 269 of them being prosecuted in courts, according to Wabukala.

The EACC boss however noted that the commission is faced with some major challenges that continue to hamper its efforts to fight graft in the country. These include budget constraints, the politicization of the fight against graft, and unethical conduct besides a weak legal framework as some of the barriers hindering the commission’s work.

Sirisia MP John Waluke and his business partner Grace Wakhungu are among prolific individuals who have been prosecuted over graft.

The two were arrested in June last year and spend three months in jail before they were released in on Sh10 million and Sh20 million cash bail respectively, in September 2020.
