Interior Cabinet Kithure Kindiki has ordered the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to heighten investigations into the mysterious death of Geoffrey Mwathi while at Kikuyu benga artist DJ Fatxo’s apartment in Kasarani a week ago.
“On the matter of the late Jeff Mwathi, I have spoken to the DCI Mr. Amin and instructed him to send a homicide team from the DCI headquarters to thoroughly investigate the incident and take the necessary action,” Kindiki Kithure, CS Interior.
Kindiki’s instructions follow an ongoing social media uproar with Kenyans using social media under the hashtag #JusticeForJeff, to call for the people behind the death of 23-year-old, Jeff Mwathi to be brought to book.
DJ Fatxo and his friends allege that Jeff committed suicide by jumping from the 10th floor of the house the DJ, turned musician lives in. CCTV footage at the apartment, however, raises suspicion about the allegations and Jeff’s family has also cited foul play, saying their son was in good spirits and had no suicidal thoughts.
According to a WhatsApp phone conversation Jeff shared with the mum, he was excited to meet DJ Fatxo for a job offer he had for him. It is still unclear how he ended up at a club with the DJ and later at his house (3am).
“Mum, please send me KSh 200, I have just talked with DJ Fatxo, and we are meeting at Ruiru, but I don’t have any money. I look really good, and I will make sure to take a photo with him and I will send you so that you can see,” Jeff told his mother in their last phone call.
