Police are investigating a case in Malindi in which two children died after they were allegedly forced to fast by their pastor.

Pastor Paul Mackenzie Nthenge of Good News International Church is alleged to have forced his congregants to fast to death starting with children followed by women and finally men with the promise that they will die peacefully before the world is cursed by God.

A former faithful of Mackenzie had raised alert of the issue and Human rights activists in the region were alerted.

According to Human rights activists led by Mathias Shipeta, Victor Kaudo and Jacinta Mbey, the accused pastor is not new to such bizzare incidents and has in the past been arrested for radicalizing children.

The bodies of the two children are reportedly buried at Mackenzie’s farm in the Shakahola area, 70 kilometers in Malindi rural. The human rights activists are now calling on the police to exhume the bodies for investigations and have the rogue pastor locked up for good.

According to Malindi Sub County Director of Investigations, Charles Kamau,  his officers rescued a couple that was at the verge of starvation when they raided a farm associated with the pastor after getting tipped about the incident.

Mackenzie appeared before Malindi Resident Magistrate Olga Onalo on Thursday morning after the investigating officer requested time to conclude investigations.

It is alleged that between March 16 and March 17 this year, Mackenzie starved the children and several others by forcing them to fast at his farm in the Chakama area in Magarini Sub County, Kilifi County.

The pastor was released on a KES 10,000 bond.
