Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohammed has released results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2018.
KCPE 2018 TOP CANDIDATES
The overall performance of candidates has improved this year compared to last year with the top 2 candidates in KCPE 2018 scoring 453/500 marks while over 50% of the KCPE 2018 candidates scored 250 marks and above.
12,273 candidates scored 400 marks and above, 228,414 candidates scored 301-399 marks, 574,927 candidates scored 201-300, 234,573 scored 101-200 and 2,177 – scored 1-100 marks.
The highest marks scored by a special needs candidate was 446. 2481 candidates with special needs sat for KCPE 2018.
Male candidates performed better in Maths, Science, Social Studies and Religious studies as compared to their female counterparts.
The CS said that none of the exam papers were leaked and that the few cases of attempted cheating were nipped.
“I want to assure to you that none of the nine papers administered in KCPE were leaked. The few cases of attempted cheating were nipped in the bud, these results are therefore a pure and true reflection of hard work,” the CS said.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) CEO George Magoha echoed Amina’s statement and maintained the 2018 KCPE examinations did not leak.
“We have reached a stage now where we say cheating is in the past but i know nobody believes me when I say KCPE 2018 did not leak because I am a Kenyan,” Magoha said.
Magoha also gave a backlash to parents for not according their children quality time and treating them like unnecessary baggage.
“Our parents have failed, maybe me included. Why do you produce children when you have no time for them? It’s like an extra baggage,” he said.
HOLIDAY TUITION OUTLAWED
CS Amina Mohamed maintained that holiday tuition is prohibited and said those found teaching over holidays will be punished.
FORM ONE SELECTION
Form One selection for secondary school placement will reportedly start next week on Monday and according to Amina Mohammed there will be no second selection.
