Adnan Duale sued for defamation, again

Governors Isaac Ruto (Bomet) and Paul Chepkwony (Kericho) are suing National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale for defamation following some alleged slanderous remarks that he made against the two in a political rally in Kericho County last month.

The two governors have directed their lawyer Peter Wanyama to file a joint defamation suit against Mr Duale, at the Kericho High Court, over the defamatory statements he uttered.

Duale had, during a fund-raiser he attended at Borborwet Secondary School in Belgut on August 14, accused the two of receiving Sh1 billion in bribes from Okoa Kenya crusaders to destabilize the Jubilee government.

Peter wanyama had maintained that the utterances by Duale were extremely defamatory and he will be seeking Sh20 million for each of the governors in compensation from the majority leader.

“You are hereby required within 15 days from the date of service hereof to enter an appearance in the said suit. Should you fail to enter an appearance within the time mentioned above, the plaintiffs (governors) may proceed with the suit and judgment may be given in your absence,” reads the summons issued by Kericho Law Court to Duale.

The suit filed by the two governors comes in the wake of a similar one filed by Cord co-principal Raila Odinga, who moved to court last week to sue Duale for defamation after he linked him to the collapse of Mumias sugar.

In a defamation suit filed at the High Court, the opposition leader sought unspecified compensation and also for Duale to be barred from repeating similar allegations against him.
