Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo and his wife were attacked and robbed in the early hours of this morning by a gang of thugs at their home in Hardy estate, Nairobi, who then robbed them of cash and valuables. Both were admitted in hospital for treatment, Daniel Maanzo with head injuries.

Police said the attack took place at about 3 am as the MP and his family were sleeping. According to the police, a gang of four men smashed a pane of glass at the kitchen door before they grabbed a sleeping house girl and made her to open other rooms in the house.

Langata OCPD Titus Yoma said the gang went through the other rooms, including the MP’s bedroom, where they attacked him and his wife before robbing them.

“The attackers escaped soon after the incident,” said Yoma, whereupon the alarm was raised and the MP and his family were rushed to hospital where they were admitted for checks.

SERIES OF UNREPORTED ATTACKS

News of this serious attack is now hitting the online media and no doubt will be covered in tomorrow’s newspapers, however, the Kenya Forum can reveal that it is just one of a number of such attacks recently staged in the Karen, Hardy and Langatta areas, all seemingly with a similar style of attack, and none of which appear to have been reported in the press.

In each case the attack takes place at about 3am, with a gang of four to seven men who first hold up a maid or other member of a household’s staff and get him or her to open up the rest of the house. They then attack the house owners to subdue and frighten them before stealing cash and valuables.

THE ROLE OF THE POLICE?

One of the reasons given to the Kenya Forum for these attacks not being reported is that those who have suffered from them believe that police officers, or former police officers are involved.

Hopefully some good will come of this appalling attack on Daniel Maanzo and his family and that an independent police team will be brought in from outside the area to investigate.
