Githurai bus crew that sexually assaulted woman charged

A Githurai bus crew accused of stripping and sexually assaulting a woman will be facing charges of sexual assault and robbery with violence, following a court ruling yesterday.

The presiding magistrate, Daniel Ogembo, ruled that the prosecution had proved its case and therefore the accused; Nicholas Chege Mwangi, Meshack Mburu Mwangi and Edward Ndung’u Kamau had a case to answer.

“Considering the evidence on record and the testimony of 12 witnesses, I find that the three have a case to answer,” said Ogembo.

The three are accused of sexually molesting a 21 year old passenger, only identified as H.E.W in order to protect her identity, between September 19 and 20, 2014 inside a bus at millennium petrol station in Githurai. They are also accused of robbing her personal effects and sh 41,700.

A clip of the barbaric act, which according to the prosecution was recorded by Kamau, went viral on social media sparking a public outrage.

The incident had occurred hot in the heels of a series of stripping events targeting unsuspecting women by rogue men in Nairobi, sparking the popular My Dress My Choice demonstration by women in Nairobi County in protest.
